Why are small-sided youth games called ’MODs’?
Because these teams have fewer than 11-players per side, use a smaller ball, and play on smaller fields - they are often refered to as playing under ’modified rules’ or more simply as MODs soccer. Players compete in the game of soccer against other players of the same age, as defined by their birthday on August 1st of the current year. For example, a players is eligible to play under 10 (abbreviated U10) if they are age 9 on this date.
When do they play? When do they practice? How are teams formed?
MODS soccer games are played on Monday and Friday evenings and Saturday Mornings (depending on age group) at the Econ Soccer Complex. Teams typically have practices on other nights of the week at various locations, determined by the team coach. Teams are typically formed by placing together or putting your child on a team practices in the vicinity of your zip code or has children on the team that attend the same school as your child.
